Conventional Medical Skin Needling consists of 13 micro needles that penetrate the skin. The needles oscillate, creating microscopic punctures within the skin. These punctures stimulate the skin’s natural regeneration process. The treatment starts by micro-needling the skin using the revolutionary Dermapen device which consists of microneedles that are run over the skin to create tiny punctures.

The skin responds by releasing a cascade of Growth Factors to repair the treated area. Growth Factors are responsible for the production of new, healthy collagen and the breakdown of damaged, unhealthy collagen which shows up as ageing on the skin’s surface.

We apply a meso-peptide hyaluronic serum to the skin when we perform the micro-needling. This mimics a Mesotherapy treatment and forces the active meso-peptide hyaluronic serum into the deeper layers of the skin. Peptides act as the messengers between your skin cells and encourage them to regenerate and increase skin hydration for youthful, plump-looking skin.

We finish off the treatment by applying further active serums to the skin and infusing these using an Electro Sonic Mask. This mask causes the skin cells to become more permeable, therefore, increasing the receipt of the active ingredients and Growth Factors while cooling and soothing the skin for faster recovery.

3D Medical Skin Needling is used to combat signs of ageing in the neck, chest and face.

Treatment time will vary according to the area being treated; this can be anything from 90 – 120 minutes. The allocated time includes the application of the topical anaesthetic, the 3D-Medical Skin Needling and post-treatment Dermalux LED Light Therapy OR Iontophoresis Mask.

The number of sessions required will depend on the method used, but you will see results after your first 3D Medical Skin Needling treatment.

A minimally invasive approach usually requires 5 sessions, 2 – 4 weeks apart.

The deeper, more invasive method will require at least 5 sessions, 4 weeks apart for a more potent collagen induction response.

Due to the mild skin exfoliation post-treatment, the skin’s colour and texture are improved about 1 – 2 weeks post-treatment.

The stimulation and maturation of the new collagen in the skin will take up to 90 days, therefore the best results can be expected about 3 months after the treatments.

Some patients have reported seeing visible results sooner while others still see improvement in skin quality for up to a year post-treatment.

Before 3D Medical Skin Needling

1. Avoid any strong at-home facial treatments and/or exfoliation treatments the week prior to your appointment.

2. Avoid sun exposure (including tanning) for five days prior to your treatment.

3. Know the skincare products you are using at home, and create a list, as having these details will assist your Skincare Specialist to make suitable product recommendations.

4. Advise your Skincare Specialist regarding any medications, medical conditions, and/or past skin conditions; even over-the-counter medications can affect your skin, so it is good for us to know what may be contributing to your concerns as well as how your skin reacts to certain products.

5. Should you be preparing your skin for a big event and you have never had a skin care treatment before and therefore don’t know how your skin will respond, it is recommended that you schedule an appointment six weeks before your big event with a follow-up appointment closer to the event date. This way you have time to address any negative skin reactions and get the maximum results from your treatment(s).

6. Be prepared to discuss your skin concerns and goals. Your Skincare Specialist is a licensed expert who will provide you with a detailed plan to best achieve your specific goals.

7. We advise against any aesthetic procedures (including Botulinum Toxin, Facial Fillers and Threads) 2 weeks prior to and 2 weeks after any minimally invasive skin care treatment.

Day of 3D Medical Skin Needling

Should this be your first treatment at the Skin Clinic, you will be required to complete a short medical questionnaire to help guide your Skincare Specialist in selecting the most suitable protocol for you. Your Skincare Specialist will require access to your face, neck and shoulders, therefore requiring you to get changed into a robe prior to the treatment.

The needling treatment will include:

• Cleansing.
• Application of a topical anaesthetic for 30 minutes (to numb the skin increasing treatment comfort).
• Application of a bespoke skin serum/solution.
• Use of a medical needling device to enhance penetration of the active ingredients (vibrations can be felt against the skin due to the oscillation of the needles).
• Application of a calming, soothing mask increasing the penetration of the active ingredients.
• Application of a Stem Cell serum.

After 3D Medical Skin Needling

Redness can be expected for 3+ days post treatment. A heated sensation can also be expected for the next 2 days. Tightness of the skin can be experienced due to swelling and eyes can appear swollen. Dryness and heaviness of the eyes have also been experienced. Blood spotting can appear underneath the skin and will resolve in 5+ days. Dryness and slight skin wrinkling might appear around day 3 after which flaking usually begins on day 3 and can last for a further 3+ days.

AFTERCARE PRODUCTS AND ADVICE

• Skin should be cleansed morning and evening with an anti-bacterial wash using lukewarm to cool water.
• A SPF 50 should be applied in the morning and reapplied every 2 hours post-treatment.
• Make-up can be applied from day 2 onward.
• Direct sunlight should be avoided 7 days post-treatment Retinols and exfoliating products. should be avoided until the skin is completely healed.
• Flaking skin should not be rubbed, picked or scratched.
• It is advised to avoid vigorous exercise for 2 days post-treatment It is recommended to avoid anti-inflammatories and icing the area as the inflammation encourages the release of growth factors within the skin.

Your Skincare Specialist will advise on a suitable moisturiser to promote healing and support results.

The treatment includes a bespoke aftercare pack consisting of relevant product mini’s to aid the recovery of your skin post-treatment.

The skin will appear sunburnt after the treatment, this usually lasts about 48 hours. The skin can also feel slightly dry and possibly even flake for a further 48 hours, however, when using our provided post-treatment recovery pack, the discomfort is drastically minimised.

Nevertheless, as with any surgery or aesthetic procedure, there is always a possibility of complications, including bleeding and/or infection. If prone to fever blisters it is possible to experience a fever blister break out after skin needling due to inflammation in the skin. It is important to inform your skin care professional if you have a history of fever blisters, as a fever blister medication needs to be started 3 days prior to the treatment to prevent HZ activation.

Rare adverse effects such as severe post-treatment erythema, sterile pustules, post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation, severe skin peeling, and crusting can be evident. Prolonged photosensitisation of the skin and severe erythema have been reported up to 14 days post-treatment. While the majority of people do not experience these complications, it is important to be aware of these risks and discuss them with your Skincare Specialist in advance.
