What is Non-Surgical Rhinoplasty?

Non-surgical rhinoplasty, often referred to as a “liquid nose job,” utilises dermal fillers to correct and refine nasal imperfections without the need for surgery.

This minimally invasive treatment is particularly effective for addressing concerns like bumps, humps, drooping and slight asymmetry.

By injecting small amounts of Hyaluronic Acid-based fillers, subtle yet significant changes are made to the nasal contour, enhancing facial harmony.

Ideal for patients seeking improvement without the downtime and risks associated with surgery, non-surgical rhinoplasty offers a quick and effective solution.

Frequently Asked Questions About Non-Surgical Rhinoplasty

Our approach to non-surgical rhinoplasty

At Dr. Nerina Wilkinson + Associates, we recognise that a harmonious facial appearance relies on the thoughtful integration of all features. Our non-surgical rhinoplasty is designed to refine the nose and enhance overall facial symmetry through state-of-the-art injectables.

Recognising that the nose does not exist in isolation, our approach ensures that modifications to its shape enhance the entire facial aesthetic. Our dermal fillers go beyond volume enhancement and provide tools for precise nasal sculpting, offering structural support and defining the contours that frame your face.

With a deep understanding of facial dynamics, we strategically place Hyaluronic Acid-based fillers to achieve a natural, balanced enhancement. This method allows for subtle yet transformative results, maintaining the natural proportion and beauty of your facial features.

Who is the ideal candidate for non-surgical rhinoplasty?

If you’re looking to change the shape of your nose profile but aren’t ready for nose surgery, non-surgical rhinoplasty with dermal fillers could be the perfect solution.

This procedure is ideal for individuals seeking subtle enhancements without the commitment of permanent surgical alterations.

A non-surgical nose job is well-suited for those looking to address:

  • Minor nasal imperfections: Correct slight bumps, refine the nasal tip, or balance asymmetrical features.
  • Subtle refinements: Enhance the overall balance and proportion of your nose in relation to your facial features.
  • Immediate results: Enjoy the benefits of a refined nasal profile with minimal downtime and quick recovery.

How is non-surgical rhinoplasty performed?

Non-surgical rhinoplasty begins with a thorough consultation where the doctor assesses your nasal structure and discusses your aesthetic goals. It’s crucial to be open about your medical history, current medications, and your expectations during this consultation.

To better understand your desired outcome, we utilise advanced Next Motion imaging technology to study your facial features and to help ensure we design a treatment plan that aligns with your aesthetic goals. This precise approach helps us tailor the procedure to your specific facial features. We will also guide you on how to prepare for the procedure and manage your recovery afterward.

Once your treatment plan is established, the procedure takes place in our office. The targeted area will be cleaned and disinfected, and a topical or injectable anaesthetic like lidocaine will be applied to minimise discomfort. The chosen dermal filler, often a stabilised Hyaluronic Acid, may also contain an anaesthetic to ensure comfort throughout the injection process.

The filler is carefully injected using fine needles, with precision to sculpt and enhance the nasal profile while you remain still. Mild discomfort is common, but generally well-tolerated.

After the procedure, we provide aftercare instructions and ice to reduce any swelling. Follow-up visits are scheduled to monitor the results and administer additional injections if necessary to perfect the shape of your nose.

How long does non-surgical rhinoplasty take?

The duration of a non-surgical rhinoplasty procedure typically ranges from 45 to 60 minutes, depending on the complexity of the adjustments required. This quick process allows for immediate departure from the clinic following the treatment, as no downtime is necessary.

What is the recovery period of non-surgical rhinoplasty?

Recovery from non-surgical rhinoplasty is quick, with most patients able to resume normal activities on the same day. Mild swelling or bruising at the injection sites is common but typically subsides swiftly. Adherence to aftercare instructions provided by your aesthetic specialist is crucial for optimal healing and achieving the best results.

How long do results from non-surgical rhinoplasty last?

The full results of your nose correction treatment may take up to 14 days to take full effect and will last for an average of 12 – 18 months, depending on the condition of your skin, area treated, amount of product injected, injection technique and lifestyle factors.

How much does a non-surgical nose job cost in South Africa?

The cost of non-surgical rhinoplasty in South Africa typically ranges from R5,000 to R10,000, depending on various factors such as your unique facial structure, specific concerns, personal goals, and the amount of product required for the treatment. After an initial consultation with one of our Aesthetic Doctors, you will receive an estimate tailored to your individual needs.

Is non-surgical rhinoplasty safe?

Non-surgical rhinoplasty is generally safe when performed by a qualified Aesthetic Doctor.

This procedure uses dermal fillers, which have been utilised for many years to enhance facial features effectively and safely. Historically, some substances used in dermal fillers could lead to adverse reactions and side effects. However, advancements in medical aesthetics have led to the use of safer, more reliable injectables.

Today, a stabilised form of Hyaluronic Acid is the preferred choice for these procedures. It provides excellent results in terms of volume and contour while also integrating well with the body, offering benefits such as immediate and precise corrections with minimal risk of complications. This makes non-surgical rhinoplasty a safe treatment with minimal side effects when performed by experienced professionals.

What are the possible risks and complications associated with non-surgical rhinoplasty?

When performed by an experienced Aesthetic Doctor, non-surgical rhinoplasty typically results in minimal side effects.

However, as with any medical procedure, there are potential risks and complications that should be considered.

Non-surgical rhinoplasty: Side Effects, Risks & Complications

  • Swelling and bruising: Commonly observed around the injection sites, these side-effects are usually temporary.
  • Redness and tenderness: Often occurs at the injection site but typically subsides within a few days.
  • Asymmetry: If fillers are not placed correctly, the results may be uneven, although this can usually be corrected in subsequent sessions.
  • Infection: While rare, infections can occur and are treatable with appropriate medication.
Allergic reactions: Uncommon, especially with Hyaluronic Acid-based fillers, which are similar to substances naturally found in the body.
  • Vascular complications: Extremely rare but serious, these include vascular occlusion which can lead to tissue damage if not treated promptly.
  • Scarring: Patients with a tendency towards keloid formation or hypertrophic scarring should avoid fillers due to the risk of abnormal scar formation.
  • Needle marks: Visible needle marks from the injections are normal and usually resolve within a few days.
  • Acne-like skin eruptions: Occasionally, tissue fillers can cause acne-like eruptions, which generally clear up within a few days.
  • Skin sensitivity and erythema: Post-injection symptoms may include skin rashes, itching, tenderness, and swelling.
  • Drug and Local Anaesthetic Reactions: Systemic reactions can sometimes occur from the local anaesthetic or epinephrine used in nerve block anaesthesia for tissue filler injections. Potential symptoms include light-headedness, a rapid heartbeat (tachycardia), or fainting, all of which may necessitate medical intervention.

Contra-indications for non-surgical rhinoplasty

  • Allergy or hypersensitivity: To any of the filler components, including hyaluronic acid or lidocaine.
  • Skin infections: Presence of any active skin infections near the treatment area.
  • Systemic infections: Including both bacterial and viral infections.
  • Blood disorders: Such as a low platelet count which can affect clotting.
  • Pregnancy and breast-feeding: Due to the unknown effects of fillers on foetal and infant health.
  • Autoimmune diseases: Conditions that may affect healing and response to fillers.
  • Diabetes: Especially if poorly controlled, as it may affect wound healing.
  • Poor wound healing or Propensity for Keloid Formation: Increases risk of scarring.
  • Anticoagulant therapy: Increases the risk of bleeding and bruising.
  • Active skin cancer: In or around the treatment area.

Non-surgical rhinoplasty: Before and After

To ensure optimal results and minimise risks for your non-surgical rhinoplasty, there are specific guidelines you should follow starting two weeks before your procedure. Your aesthetic specialist will also advise you on the best steps to take to help you prepare and recover from non-surgical rhinoplasty during your consultation.

Avoid specific substances including:

  • Alcohol
  • Garlic
  • Lidocaine, and
  • Fish oil supplements.
  • Aspirin and other anti-inflammatory medications such as those containing diclofenac, mefenamic acid, indomethacin, or ibuprofen, are commonly used for pain, swelling, or fever.

Consult your doctor or pharmacist to determine if your medications contain ingredients that could increase the risk of bruising or bleeding at the injection site.

Day of non-surgical rhinoplasty procedure

On the day of your dermal filler treatment, you must arrive without any makeup or remove your make-up in our “lipstick room” beforehand.. This precaution helps to prevent the risk of biofilm (bacterial infections) associated with dermal filler treatments. Additionally, ensure you are well-hydrated and have eaten a light meal before the procedure to help maintain comfort and minimise the likelihood of lightheadedness during the session. Following the treatment, avoid touching or applying pressure to the treated area to allow the filler to stabilise and prevent displacement.

What to do after a non-surgical rhinoplasty procedure

Please follow these instructions closely to help achieve the best results:

  • For the first 4 hours: Avoid lying down, engaging in strenuous exercise, or any activity that might increase blood flow to the treated area.
  • For 12 hours: Refrain from consuming alcohol.
Avoid applying makeup at the injection site to prevent any risk of contamination.
  • For 24 hours: Do not rub or massage the treated areas, as this could impact the product’s effects.
  • For two weeks: Avoid direct sun exposure, UV light, freezing temperatures, and saunas. You might notice tiny bumps or marks immediately after the treatment; they should resolve within a few hours. Gently applying ice to the area can provide relief.
  • For 4 weeks: Avoid dental procedures and any invasive skin or surgical procedures.

Please be aware that no treatment can entirely stop the ageing process; to preserve the results, additional treatments will be necessary. Consult your doctor to determine when to schedule your next appointment.
